This is one of my favorite photos from my time in Yellowstone because it is reasonably unique. I’d walked the boardwalk that surrounds Grand Prismatic Spring a few times but had always come away frustrated with how difficult it was to convey the scale of the spring from so close. I could see a hillside behind the spring that looked like it had recently been burned and might offer a wide view across the geyser basin. I hiked up there and, with the exception of the scattered dead trees sticking into the image, I was right.
